Wirral Environmental Business of the Year Award 2007 Winner

Gemcliff's Managing Director Edward
Conroy and Director of Facilities Stacy Conroy on recently winning Wirral
Borough Councils Environmental Business of the Year 2007.
Gemcliff established in 1974, now provides "Total Support
Services". Placed strategically in the North West, we can provide out
tailored services to the whole region effortlessly.
The company employs a large number of skilled and experienced personnel and has enjoyed steady year-by-year growth carrying out various types of services, mainly compromising of Office Cleaning and Window Cleaning. Our web site has a more detailed description of other services we have added since the company originated. Along with this, we have re-invested our margins back into the company’s success and have achieved various accreditations and corporate memberships for Industry, Commerce & Public Buildings. Below are the accreditations we currently hold -
- ISO 9000 - Quality Assured - registered since 1993
- National Federation of Master Window & General Cleaners - since 1995
- British Institute of Cleaning Science - corporate members since 2000
- SABRE - Supporting Britain’s Reservists & Employers - since 2004
- SAFE Working Contractors Accreditation - since 2004
- RoSPA – “Consecutive Gold” awards covering years 2000 - 2006
- Constructionline approved– since July 2006
- Contractors Health & Safety Scheme - CHAS – since July 2006
Being awarded for the second consecutive year with the Gold RoSPA Award, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents have assessed our company's Health & Safety strategies and performance, which have demonstrated over the last six years to have an ongoing development and commitment at the highest level. This has identified that our attitude to our employee’s welfare has been outstanding.
It has now been nearly “thirty three” years since the company carried out its first cleaning contract, and in that time we feel it has come a long way. During such time we have adopted various systems and procedures which have equipped the company with the expertise and knowledge required to compete with Larger National Competitors within our area. Along with our dynamic understanding of customer satisfaction, we are able to provide a personalised service to each of our clients – economically.
As part of our vision we are always looking for ways to improve our profile and become totally unique within our industry. With many options to choose from we felt that the company was lacking in something dynamic and we needed to be doing something different from what we do now. By pure coincidence we were asked by one of our prestigious clients Wirral Partnership Homes representative Michelle Plimley, would we be interested in helping in a voluntary litter picking campaign that was set to run across the Wirral. This was unnoticeably the avenue we had not considered – “assisting the community”.
Following the campaign that afternoon we were introduced to the Chairperson
Mrs Jean McIntosh who started the idea of a local volunteers organisation
known as BNBEAG (Bidston & North Birkenhead Environmental Action Group)
or “BEANBAG” as the local children call it, who had helped to
co-ordinate the day. BNBEAG had recently won the “Government Office
Northwest Community Project of the Year 2006” and after the campaign
we found that this was definitely the added benefit our company needed that
engaging with the community we naturally wanted to be more involved and
so we set about investigating the benefits.
